Core experience

Source and destination,
in the same window.

Organizing files often means moving back and forth between two locations. KoiX Finder puts them side by side. Each pane keeps its own location, history, and view, so you spend less time switching and keep track of where files go.

01

From two panes to four

Choose one, two, three, or four panes, or a 2×2 grid, to fit the task. Each pane browses, sorts, and changes views independently, with a clear active marker. Native window tabs each retain their own layout.

02

Keep going with the keyboard

Tab switches panes, F5 copies, and F6 moves to another pane. Return renames and Space opens Quick Look, with familiar macOS shortcuts for everyday actions.

03

At home on your Mac

Built with AppKit and connected to Spotlight search, native window tabs, Quick Look, and iCloud Drive. Familiar habits stay with you, with more room to organize.

Features

What is taking shape

The first release is in preparation. These core capabilities are already implemented in the project; release notes will describe the shipping version.

01Multiple panes, three views
Up to four independent file panes with list, icon, and hierarchical column views. Each pane keeps its location, history, sorting, and view.
02Search and quick filtering
Use Spotlight to search names or contents in the current folder or across your Mac. Quick filtering matches names in the current directory only.
03Copy, move, and undo
Operations across panes show progress and allow cancellation. Compare paths, sizes, and modification dates on conflicts, then keep both, replace, or skip. Common file operations support undo and redo.
04Batch rename
Replace text, add prefixes or suffixes, or number files with a format. Preview changes and spot duplicate or invalid names before applying them; undo the whole batch at once.
05Compress and extract
Create Zip archives and extract zip and tar formats, with progress, cancellation, and undo. Extracting 7z and rar requires additional tools.
06Cloud storage and familiar places
Keep favorites, iCloud Drive, volumes, and color tags in the sidebar. List and icon views show cloud download status, with actions to download files or remove local copies.

Before you begin

Know its limits

It focuses on everyday file browsing and operations. Some capabilities still depend on macOS services and permissions.

  • Requires macOS 14 or later. The desktop, Trash, and system open / save dialogs remain part of macOS, so Finder cannot be fully replaced.
  • Search depends on Spotlight indexing; unindexed or privacy-excluded locations will not appear. Protected folders require the appropriate system permissions.
  • Network share mounting and gallery view are not implemented yet. Extracting 7z and rar needs external tools; password-protected archives are not supported.
